Welcome to The Looking Glass Play Therapy and Creative Arts Counselling Services. I’m Kelly Sawyer, a Certified Play Therapist, Creative Arts Counsellor, Filial Therapist and Clinical Supervisor with many years’ experience supporting children, young people and families. My approach is warm, child-centred and trauma-informed, offering a safe and accepting space where children can express themselves, explore their feelings and begin to make sense of their experiences. I work closely with parents, carers, schools and professionals to support each child’s emotional wellbeing and capacity to heal, grow and thrive.

Play Therapy

Play is often described as the natural language of children. In play therapy, children can use toys, creative materials, storytelling and imagination to express thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to put into words. This can help them process experiences, develop emotional understanding and find new ways of coping.

My approach is child-centred and non-judgemental. I build a therapeutic relationship based on trust, acceptance and emotional safety, while working alongside parents, carers, schools and other professionals involved in the child’s care.

Creative Arts Counselling

For older children and young people, I also offer Creative Arts Counselling. This combines talking and listening with creative approaches, giving young people more than one way to communicate, reflect and make sense of their experiences.

Filial Therapy

Filial Therapy is a supportive intervention that involves parents and carers directly in the therapeutic process. As a qualified Filial Therapist, I train and supervise parents as they hold special child-centred play sessions with their own child. This approach can help strengthen the parent-child relationship, support communication and empower parents to respond therapeutically to their child’s emotional needs.
